Woolmark and Rip Curl combine to make new Mick Fanning collection

Surf brand Rip Curl has partnered with The Woolmark Company to produce a selection of wool garments for former Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour champion, Australian surfer Mick Fanning.

Mick Fanning wore the garments for the first time at an ASP event at Bells Beach in the Australian state of Victoria over the Easter weekend (March 30 and 31).

Headlining the collection is a Woolmark-certified Merino wool wetsuit poncho, designed to be worn as an over garment, providing warmth and insulation between heats or when changing in and out of wetsuits.

Mick Fanning gave one of the ponchos as a gift to each of his fellow competitors at the event.

“I wanted to give my peers something that they could remember their time at Bells by,” he said. “The poncho is something that both the guys and the girls can use so everyone will be covered. Like the rest of my range the materials are premium and I couldn’t think of anything finer than 100% merino wool for that. It is natural fibre versus the natural elements of Victoria’s Bells Beach. It’s made for surfing on the edge of the world.”

The collection also includes a jacket and fleece. Both pieces are made from merino wool, are Woolmark certified and will be available in limited-edition quantities from Rip Curl.
