Columbia adds cooling technology to summer ranges

US-based activewear brand Columbia Sportswear will make its sweat-activated cooling technology Omni-Freeze Zero available to consumers from the end of this week.

When exposed to sweat, thousands of little blue rings embedded in fabric create a prolonged cooling sensation.

“We believe consumers will appreciate the fact that their hard-earned sweat can be used for something more than just passive evaporation,” said Columbia’s vice-president of global marketing, Dan Hanson.

The company had recently announced it was adding the technology to its performance fishing gear, but it will also be incorporated into more than 40 styles of apparel, footwear and accessories.
