Five billion garments have borne the Woolmark brand

To mark the recognition, Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), the not-for-profit company owned by wool growers across Australia, issued a statement saying that in the 50 years the distinctive logo has been in use, it has been applied to five billion garments.
Created in 1964 by Italian designer Francesco Saroglia, the Woolmark logo has been used on products in more than 100 countries across the globe.
In the statement, AWI chief strategy and marketing officer, Robert Langtry, said he believes the logo’s strength comes from its simplicity: five black bands crisscrossing to form a skein of wool, representing the softness and elegance of the fibre. “It is one of the world’s most recognisable textile symbols,” he said.
