Vietnam: Apparel industry grows 16% in Q1

The Hanoi Times has reported that the garment industry in Vietnam grew 16% in value in the first quarter of this year to reach $4.2 billion.

The country’s major export markets include the US, Japan and the Republic of Korea, where with exports grew 25%.

Le Tien Truong, deputy director general of Viet Nam National Textile and Garment Group, said businesses have invested in equipment and their work force to compete with Japan.

In terms of turnover, clothing has been the country’s most profitable export industry for five consecutive years.
