High-tech materials manufacturer Bayer CropScience recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for its newest research and development facility: a 3,700-square-metre greenhouse in Memphis dedicated to cotton research.

The company has said it plans to invest $17 million in the new facility, which it aims to use to help increase the number of traits available for cotton varieties in US and in international markets. The greenhouse will be complete in the early part of next year.

“We are committed to bringing innovation to the cotton industry,” said Mike Gilbert, head of global breeding and trait development for Bayer CropScience, at the groundbreaking ceremony.
