Outdoor Retailer analysis shows ‘better quality’ attendees

Organisers of the Outdoor Retailer (OR) said analysis of the January event showed the “quality” of attendees is improving and that there has been a shift towards international visitors and those from the north east US.

“This is something the OR team has worked hard to achieve to stand up against a persistent rumour that the show is somehow more regional than it was in the previous decade,” they said.

As a result of reclassifying and tightening the qualification process for certain categories, there was a significant reduction in local attendance formerly identified as retailer/distributor/working media, and those under 16 were discounted. Organisers said this revealed an improvement in the “quality”.

Around 21,800 attended the winter edition, a 1% rise over the previous year, and the date shift helped ease pressure by spreading attendance over four days. “To some, the show may have looked quieter on days one and two, but actually we had more attendees overall and they were spread out and shopping all four days,” said organisers.

The full break-down of attendees and events is available on OR’s website.
