Alexium claims breakthrough in FR nylon-cotton blends

07/05/2013

Flame retardant treatment specialist Alexium says it has made several breakthroughs in its flame retardant  (FR)  treatments for nylon blends.

Trademarked Nycolon, it has produced a wash-durable, self-extinguishing FR treatment on printed 50/50 nylon/cotton fabric which does not melt or drip when exposed to flame tests.

Stefan Susta, Alexium’s chief operating officer, said: “We are pleased with the pace in which this stage of development was reached and very encouraged to accelerate this work. Adding the Nycolon trademark to our portfolio will allow us to distinguish our products between 95% nylon and nylon blends.”

Alexium estimates a market potential of 50 million yards to supply to industrial workwear users and first responders, plus 27 million yards to supply the US military.
