Cotton growth for Cameroon

09/05/2013
Farmers in Cameroon have harvested 221,000 tonnes of cotton fibre in the current season, the national growers’ association, the CNPCC, has said.

This time last year, the yield was 180,000 tonnes, which means there has been an increase of 22.8%.

CNPCC president, Ousmane Ousmaté, told local media that the increase would have been even greater but for the fact that some farmers in regions close to the country’s long border with Nigeria sold to traders there because infrastructure deficiencies inside Cameroon made it too difficult to deliver their crops to domestic buyers.
