Sustainable Textile Solutions, a division of textile coloration specialist DyStar, helped three brands associated with the zero discharge of hazardous chemicals (ZDHC) project to monitor wastewater discharge of factories in China, Bangladesh and India

C&A, G-Star and H&M published a discharge data report as part of their commitment to the project, which was established in light of the Greenpeace Detox campaign in 2011. This led to the development of Joint Roadmap in 2011, which involved projects to drive the industry to reach the goal of having no harzardous chemicals in their suppliers’ wastewater by 2020.

The pilot study lasted almost a year, and aimed to verify whether any chemicals from the 11 priority chemical groups could be detected. Sustainable Textile Solutions’ conducted on-site audits, chemical inventory assessment and interpreted analytical data.

"Our global reach and local knowledge make STS a natural partner for global brands working to improve chemical management in their apparel supply chains," said Siva Rama Kumar Pariti, global audit manager of Sustainable Textile Solutions.
