Skechers said shoe's curved "rocker" caused the consumer to "use more energy with every step". Resistance Runners were said to increase muscle activation by 85% for posture-related muscles.
“Skechers’ unfounded claims went beyond stronger and more toned muscles. The company even made claims about weight loss and cardiovascular health,” said David Vladeck, director of the US Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection.
Around 520,000 customers who bought Shape-Ups or Resistance Runners will now be able to claim back the price of the shoes.
Skechers denied misleading customers but said it settled to avoid a long legal process.
