The CEO of Enka, a synthetic fibre producer based in Colombia, has said its exports to Brazil and the US increased in the first quarter, supported by the trade agreement between the countries.

Alvaro Hincapie said exports made up a third of first-quarter sales, with Brazil taking 14% and the US, 3%."We continue to focus on high value-added products in order to seize the opportunities in the US market,” he said.

Enka’s fibres are made from 100% post-consumer recycled polyethylene terephthalate, derived from plastic bottles collected all over Colombia.

The company has expressed a desire to produce more fibre for the sportswear market and is seeking partners in Europe.
