Q1 figures bring no respite for Italian textile machine producers

ACIMIT president, Sandro Salmoiraghi, said the figures were worrying and said he feared Italian textile machinery manufacturers were losing their competitive edge owing to the economic climate.
He went on to say that levels of innovation in Italian machines are still high, but said competition in the global textile production market is intense, while orders from companies in Italy have fallen sharply because of the state of the economy.
Italy has an estimated 300 companies producing machinery for the textile sector. They turned over a combined EUR 2.4 billion in 2012, exporting 83% of production to 130 different countries.
