Algeria: Turkish firm to create $900m textile hub

A Turkish firm has signed a deal with the Algerian government to build a $900 million textile cluster in Relizane that will provide 10,000 jobs in the next five years.

Local newspaper El Moudjahid reported that sportswear would be manufactured at the facility, as well as jeans, shirts and around 60 million metres of fabric per year.

Algeria’s Ministry of Industry said the development would lessen the country’s demand on apparel imports and provide much-needed jobs. Around 60% of the output is forecast to be exported.

Tapya’s deal covers the building of eight industrial facilities, a business centre and a training school.
