Dramatic reduction of water with new Sensient dyes

Sensient Imaging Technologies, a supplier of inks for digital textile and sublimation printing, has developed method of digital printing directly on to polyester fabric which uses as little as one litre of water per linear metre compared with between 50 and 100 litres for some other printing methods.

A 50% reduction in energy use has also been demonstrated, it says, while CO2 emissions can be reduced by up to 90%.

ElvaJet Alpha inks are applied directly on to polyester textile and fixed with dry heat so no washing or other finishing step is needed. They offer a deep penetration and through-printing as well as good resistance and wash fastness.

The inks were pioneered by Italian textile group Miroglio as the key colouring ingredient in their E.Volution platform, launched in February at Premiere Vision trade show in Paris.

Sensient will now showcase a range of commercial garments from Miroglio’s Motivi fashion brand at print trade show Fespa from June 25 to 29 in London.
