Acquisition to take Martex into post-consumer textile recycling

South Carolina textile firm, Martex Fiber Southern Corporation, which specialises in recycling pre-consumer textile waste to make recycled fibre and yarn products, is to acquire a Texas-based company with a similar operation, JBM Fibers. The main difference between the two is that JBM concentrates on post-consumer textile waste.

Martex chief executive, Rick Otero, said on announcing the development: “Our acquisition of JBM Fibers’ assets will expand our pre-consumer textile recycling leadership position into the post-consumer segment. JBM’s position is extremely complementary to our ‘No fibre left behind’ strategy, which diverts almost 60 million kilos of pre-consumer material each year from landfills.”

He said making high-quality recycled yarns for knitting applications for a global customer base would continue to be a core part of the company’s work.
