Merrell works with Gore to develop ConnectFit

To provide “natural motion” during the stride, layers of the construction underfoot have been minimised to allow shoes to contour naturally with the foot. Glue, board and other materials used in traditional construction have been stripped out, enhancing the flexibility of the shoe around key areas of the foot to allow it to move more naturally.
A “highly supple upper” has been developed with two different Gore-Tex laminates combined into one lining system. A laminate with a soft feel is applied to panels of the shoe that are more static, while a more stretchy laminate is applied to areas of the shoe that move more.
Collectively, these innovations have earned the name ConnectFit and Merrell has put it straight into two footwear styes for the next autumn-winter season.
The first of these, the Merrell Proterra for day hiking, walking and exploring the trail. The second is the Ascend Glove, a trail running shoe inspired by the Merrell Barefoot collection.
