Jack Wolfskin makes its restricted substances list tighter

05/07/2013
German outdoor brand Jack Wolfskin has announced that it has tightened up a list of substances it wants to restrict or eliminate. The company publishes its restricted substances list in a publication it calls the Green Book.

This tightening up of the Green Book’s contents was expected, but came into force at the start of July, three months earlier than originally planned. Jack Wolfskin said it was making these changes to its Green Book as a step on its approach towards achieving “a pollutant-free supply chain” by 2020.

In addition to a complete restructure of the Green Book, the July changes include a complete ban on certain substances and lower limits on a number of others. Examples include reducing the limit on the use of phthalate from 1,000 mg per kilo to a maximum of 50 mg per kilo of trace contaminant, and reducing that of allergenic and carcinogenic disperse dyes 5 mg to 1 mg per litre.
