Taiwan’s Anndywell develops infrared water repellent down

17/07/2013
Taiwanese down specialist Anndywell has created an infrared water-repellent down which can be used in apparel and sleeping bags.

The company reported that the oil repellency of the down has increased from grade O (for regular down) to grade 5, while the water repellency has increased from grade 4 to grade 7, according to tests by the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists. Even with the more stringent test for home laundering, the water repellency reaches grade 6 after 10 washes.

Its new down emits infrared light with wavelengths of 4µm-14µm – a beneficial range of wavelength that resonates with moisture molecules inside the human body to stimulate blood circulation and insulate the body, according to the company.

Anndywell is searching for partners for product development and has previously worked with brands including Traveler, Adidas, O’Neill, Black Yak, Vaude and Hi-Tec.
