USDA says cotton crops will fall

23/07/2013
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has said it expects the global 2013-14 cotton crop to be 3% lower than this year’s. It has forecast production of 118 million bales for the next growing season.

USDA said “less favourable market conditions” would lean to smaller cotton crops in China and the US. Based on the area of landed on which cotton is being planted for next season, it predicted a 3% decline in China with a crop of 34 million bales. However, the fall in the US is likely to be 22%, producing 13.5 million bales in 2013-2014.
