US cuts global cotton forecast

13/08/2013
The US Department of Agriculture has lowered its forecast for US and global cotton production in the 2013/14 crop year and reduced its outlook for record global inventories.

It cut its projection for the US on lower yields and for China on unfavourable weather.

US production is now expected to be 13.05 million bales – down from a July forecast of 13.5 million bales – and the smallest crop in four years.

Worldwide inventories are still expected to be at a record high by the end of the crop year that began on August 1.
