Schweinsteiger gives thumbs-up to new Bayern “lederhosen” kit

European champions FC Bayern Munich will play away games this season in a new kit with unusual brown shorts designed to look like Bavaria’s traditional costume, lederhosen.

At the unveiling of the new lederhosen kit, the club said it wanted to celebrate its Bavarian identity.

Kit supplier adidas said a white shirt and a warm-up jacket would complete the look by giving the Bayern players the appearance of visitors to Munich’s famous Oktoberfest festival.

“We are from Bavaria, and the world-renowned Oktoberfest is part of us. That’s why I think this kit is a great idea,” said midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.
