UK group wants new standard for textile re-use

UK government-backed Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) has begun work on a new standard aimed at giving consumers confidence that previously used materials, including textiles, are of a high enough quality for re-use.

Head of the group’s resource efficiency department, Dr David Moon, said he believed a new standard could provide a major boost to the re-use of products, including clothes, textiles or fibres.
“An important constraint on the growth of this sector is weak consumer confidence in the quality of products offered for re-sale,” he said.
