Difference in breathability is “night and day” with new Oakley jacket

Three different fabrics from Polartec have gone into a new Oakley high-end ski jacket, the Biozone.

WindPro, PowerShield Pro and Windbloc are the fabrics the brand chose to provide insulation, breathability and elasticity in different parts of the jacket, with an extensive body-mapping study deciding exactly where each of these functionalities should take priority.

Oakley research and development apparel engineer, Tony Fella, said that extensive testing of the fabrics showed that water resistance and breathability were even better than the levels suggested by Polartec.

Intensive field testing, in places including Chamonix in the Alps, involved regular testing of the skin temperature on different parts of the body. After this, Oakley concluded that the Biozone puts less strain to regulate temperature on the human body than other jacket in its range, allowing wearers to keep more of their energy for skiing or snowboarding.

Professional skier Seth Morrison was one of the athletes involved in the field testing. He said afterwards: “It was night and day from anything I’ve tried before, with the body mapping and not having to reach for a vent, letting the material do the breathing for you.”
