Huntsman Textile Effects held a forum in Bangladesh for 1000 of its customers to advise them on reducing their carbon footprint and promoting sustainability.

The ‘Innovation for Economic and Environmental Sustainability’ event was organised in conjunction with its local agent, Swiss Colours, and attracted representatives from textile mills, brands, retailers, NGOs and academic institutes.

“Creating a sustainable textile value chain is one of the top priorities in the textile industry,” said Steve Gray, global vice president of strategic marketing and planning at Huntsman, adding that the group would continue to organise these kind of events.

Huntsman Textile Effects has invested $100 million in Asia in the past few years, including in distribution centres and facilities in China and Pakistan and in a $17.5 million synthesis plant in Thailand. A research laboratory was established in Mumbai to complement its facilities in Panyu, China.

Bangladesh’s textile industry is worth $20 billion annually and accounts for 17% of GDP, with more than three-quarters of its exports heading to Europe and the US.
