Textile industry suffers in Syrian conflict

20/09/2013
Syria's state-owned textile industry has suffered a loss estimated at almost $90 million since the start of the country’s internal conflict in 2011.

Loss of human life and the refugee status of millions of Syrian citizens who have had to flee the country are clearly the most serious consequences of the 30-month conflict.

However, analysts of the business situation in Syria have said that looting and theft have cost the state-controlled textile sector around $37 million and loss of trade more than $50 million more.
