ITKIB reports rise in Turkish textile exports
Turkish textile exports, excluding apparel, increased by 7.1% year-on-year to $5.5 billion during the first eight months of 2013, according to figures from the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters' Association (ITKIB).
The nation’s textile exports accounted for approximately 6% of total exports, with around 45% textile exports shipped to the EU during the eight-month period.
Textile exports to Russia – Turkey’s largest export destination for the sector – were valued at $714.6 million, followed by Italy ($541.3 million) and Germany ($280.2 million).
Between January and August, Turkey exported woven fabric worth $1.9 billion, yarn worth $1.1 billion, knitted fabric worth $1.1 billion and fibre worth $420.7 million.
The majority of Turkey’s textile exports were produced in Istanbul ($2.6 billion) and Bursa ($746.7 million).
Turkish textile exports rose slightly in 2012 to $7.8 billion from $7.7 billion in 2011, according to official economic figures.
