Eight candidates in the running for AWI board
Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), the research, development and marketing body of the Australian wool industry, has revealed that eight candidates will contest the board positions to be made available at the 2013 AWI Annual General Meeting on November 22.
The AWI Constitution stipulates that at least a third of the board, currently comprising seven members, must retire their positions every two years. Incumbent AWI directors Meredith Sheil and George Falkiner will retire and reapply for election at the 2013 AGM, while director Roger Fletcher will not contest again, having served on the board since 2007.
AWI chairman Wal Merriman thanked and paid tribute to Mr Fletcher, saying that he had "brought significant experience, insight, business acumen and practical common sense to the AWI board over the last six years” and that his influence has been of great benefit to woolgrowers in Australia.
Six other board nominees have achieved the necessary 100 valid shareholder signatures. They are Paul Cocking and Martin Oppenheimer of New South Wales, John Hassell of Western Australia, Jock MacRae of Victoria, James Morgan of South Australia and Will Roberts of Queensland.
The AWI Board Nomination Committee will assess the skills of these candidates and will deliver its report to the AWI board.
