Textile investment to soar in Rajasthan
According to media reports, the textile sector in Rajasthan in northwest India is expecting new investment of RS100 billion ($1.6 billion) over the next seven years.
New textile policy introduced by industries minister Rajendra Pareek on October 3 is expected to benefit local textile producers considerably in the coming years. The package will be used to promote the development, manufacture and export of textiles as well as generating around 50,000 new jobs.
"A few years back, [the] textiles industry in Rajasthan was languishing and that is when, under the guidance and vision of our chief minister Ashok Gehlot, the state machinery went into 'mission mode'," said Mr Pareek.
"Today, because of innovative schemes, textiles-friendly policies and infusion of new technologies, the industry has been resurrected and is headed for an upsurge."
Mr Pareek was speaking at the inauguration of Vastra 2013, an international textile and apparel fair held in Jaipur.
Visitors from 66 countries including Australia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Denmark, Egypt, Italy, Lebanon, Slovenia, Turkey, the US and the UK are attending the event, which runs from October 3-6.
