11/10/2013

Germany-based specialty chemicals manufacturers Evonik Industries and Henkel have joined forces with BASF, Bayer, Lanxess and Solvay to take part in the Together for Sustainability (TfS) initiative. The initiative recently concluded its first year of piloting various sustainability assessments and audits in global supply chains.

TfS aims to develop and implement a global supplier engagement programme that assesses and improves sustainability sourcing practices, including ecological and social aspects.

The initiative is based on good practices and builds on established principles, such as the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and the Responsible Care Global Charter, as well as standards developed by the International Labor Organization (ILO), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and Social Accountability International (SAI).

During the pilot phase, TfS members initiated approximately 2,000 assessments and audits. In the next phase, which will draw on discoveries from the pilot phase, TfS will increase its activities to additional procurement markets and will look to recruit new members.
