Steady rise in Turkish textile exports
Turkey’s textile exports increased by 7.3% year-on-year to $6.2 billion between January and September, according to the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters' Association (ITKIB). Textile exports accounted for almost 5.5% of Turkey’s total exports during the nine-month period.
The EU continues to be the country’s main textile export market, accounting for 45% of its total textile exports. Turkey exported textiles and raw materials worth $809.3 million to Russia, $623.7 million to Italy, $318.6 million to Germany and $236.3 million to England between January and September.
Exports to the Middle East fell 2.7% to $476.1 million.
The country exported woven fabrics worth $2.1 billion, yarn worth $1.2 billion, knitted fabrics worth $1.26 billion and fibres worth $47.6 million during the nine-month period.
Turkey's overall textile exports rose slightly to $7.8 billion in 2012 from $7.7 billion in 2011.
