Deeper shades with Huntsman’s Dicrylanâ SD
Textile dyes and chemicals manufacturer Huntsman Textile Effects, a division of Huntsman Corporation, has launched Dicrylanâ Shade Deepener (SD) to help mills achieve deeper shades of black and navy.
The company claims that when light hits small particles such as the Dicrylanâ SD polymer backbone, it is scattered in all directions, resulting in a deeper shade as less light is reflected back. This effect is enhanced by light polarisation caused by the orientation of the polymer structure. The polymer units are oriented perpendicularly to one another and to the light source, which is said to result in a substantial reduction in transmitted light and a significantly deeper and darker shade.
“Dicrylanâ SD is a quantum leap forward in deep dye technology and works on all fibres,” said Steve Gray, global vice president for strategic marketing and planning, Huntsman Textile Effects.
“We have obtained increases in colour depth by up to 50% and this is a significant breakthrough which will help our customers achieve much deeper and richer blacks, which were previously unattainable.”
