Argentina: textile industry struggling, despite investment

15/11/2013
Textile industry commentators in Argentina have warned that results for 2013 are likely to prove disappointing. This is in spite of textiles being one of the industrial sectors to have won high levels of government support in recent years.

Overall, exports of garments and textiles in the first nine months of the year registered a decline of 2.3% compared to the same period in 2012.

However, an economist who runs an industry organisation called Fundación Pro Tejer, Ariel Schale, has warned that the decline in exports of Argentinean raw materials to textile manufacturers in other countries is much steeper.
