China: Outdoor clothing 'fails standards test'

10/12/2013
More than half a random sample of outdoor clothing purchased online in China fell below national standards, according to the Beijing Consumer Association.

The China Daily reported that 55% of outdoor clothing, particularly in the quick-drying category,  did not meet national standards.

A random selection of 40 items were purchased from major online shopping websites and sent to the China National Textiles Supervision Testing Center.

Problems included false claims in advertisements, false descriptions of fibre content and items that didn’t function properly.

It is not clear where the items were manufactured.
