REI to open new store in Alaska

Outdoor and sports co-operative REI is to open a new store in Fairbanks, Alaska, in the spring.

Kevin Golic, said on announcing the new store that people in the Fairbanks metropolitan area were generally enthusiastic about outdoor activities and that REI would be happy to help outfit them.

Fairbanks has long, dry winters and short, warm summers, which Mr Golic said helped encourage local people to be among the most active in the US.

REI has a long history in Alaska and opened its Anchorage store in 1980.
