Aquapel attracts buyer for Nano-Tex

Michigan-based fabric manufacturer Crypton has acquired textile technology provider Nano-Tex from venture capital investor WL Ross.

Nano-Tex specialises in nanotechnology-based textile enhancements. In 2011, it announced what it called a major breakthrough in water repellency with its fluorocarbon-free Aquapel product.

On announcing the acquisition, Crypton chairman, Randy Rubin, said his research team was “very excited” about Aquapel, a hydrocarbon polymer that is, according to Nano-Tex, “both more ecologically friendly and economically smart” than fluorocarbon alternatives, while offering liquid repellency, breathability, durability, and quick drying.
