Fibre and fabrics manufacturer Toray has announced a long-term partnership with Canadian outdoor brand Arc’teryx. A Toray-based Arc’teryx product line will go on display at ISPO in Munich from January 26-29, including the brand’s new down collection, Atom.

The collection contains custom-designed down-proof fabrics from Toray to offer users comfort and warmth, regardless of weather conditions. The selection extends from designs with extremely fine 7x7 denier yarns and a weight of only 19 to the robust 40x30 denier woven with 60 grammes per square-metre.

Steffen Meiler, the fibre and fabric developer’s marketing manager, explained on announcing the partnership that a total of six customised fabrics, which he described as innovative, lightweight and soft, have gone into eight down jackets from Arc’teryx. The fabrics are designed to meet specific air permeability requirements. He added that his company’s work with the Canadian brand showed the variety of possibilities resulting from Toray’s vertical manufacturing process, from yarn to finished fabric.

For his part, Arc’teryx director Carl Moriarty said: “Design, craftsmanship and performance are central to Arc’teryx. Suppliers play a critical role in our product development process. Everything we produce must exceed the expectations of our customers and partnerships like this one with Toray demonstrate our commitment to sourcing and using the world’s finest materials.”
