Oeko-Tex to launch online tool to support STeP

Textile industry certification organisation Oeko-Tex is to launch a new online tool to help clothing brands and their suppliers keep track of the sustainability of their supply chains.

The Swiss-based organisation launched a new certification programme called STeP last year to recognise companies that run environmentally friendly and socially responsible textile supply chains. The new online tool will be called MySTeP and will support this initiative. It is likely to be ready for launch halfway through 2014.

All interested companies in the textile industry will be able to buy a licence to use the tool, regardless of whether they have Oeko-Tex certification or not. It will enable them to establish contact with STeP-certified production plants and request the data they need to select new suppliers.
