Expanded Evonik foam plant up and running

07/02/2014
German industrial group Evonik has successfully begun operations at its new production facility in Darmstadt for Rohacell structural foam, following an investment of approximately EUR 6 million.

Rohacell is a structural foam based on polymethacrylimide, which is used in fibre-reinforced composite parts for lightweight applications.

Evonik’s new facility will increase the polymerisation capacity at the site by 50% thanks to extensive automation using robotics; cycle times have dropped by almost half.

“The facility enables us to account for the increasing demand and growth strategy for Rohacell,” said the company’s head of performance foams, Dr Andreas Hoff, when operations started.
