Dutch fire service chooses TenCate protective fabric

27/03/2014
Protective fabric manufacturer TenCate has won a contract to supply the fire service in the Zaanstreek-Waterland region of the Netherlands with high-tech fabrics for firefighters’ turnout gear, in partnership with German protective garment manufacturer LHD Group.

TenCate Millenia fabrics will be used in the outer shell, the protective thermal liner and reinforcement parts of the new suits. The first 285 suits are expected to be delivered in July 2014.

On announcing the deal, TenCate said firefighter suits from four suppliers were tested during the procurement exercise, with different types of fabrics and different garment constructions. This included physical tests performed by firefighters under ‘cold’ and ‘hot’ conditions, to determine fitness and freedom of movement, as well as moisture and heat regulation performance.
