04/04/2014
Addis Ababa-based textile company Ayka has announced that it will invest around $50 million to expand its vertically integrated operation.

Originally from Turkey, Ayka set up in Ethiopia in 2010 to carry out a spinning, knitting, dyeing and sewing operation there. Expansion will begin immediately.

Among the immediate priorities will be a project to double garment production by mid-2015, creating 13,000 new jobs to add to its current workforce of 7,500.

The company has five factories at the moment with a capacity to spin 40 tonnes of cotton and produce 80,000 garments per day.
