Apparel and footwear group VF Corporation has celebrated an event to launch a new central distribution Centre in Kunshan, China.

Chief executive, Eric Wiseman, said at the event that VF is committed to continued growth in China, saying that its business there will nearly double over the next four years. In 2013, VF achieved total revenues in China of more than $500 million. By 2017, it expects China to contribute nearly $1 billion to total company revenues.

“This represents a significant milestone in our ability to manage long-term costs and inventories, while providing measurable increases in speed-to-market for both our customers and consumers,” Mr Wiseman said of the new facility.

Representing an investment of more than $60 million, the Kunshan distribution centre is VF’s largest infrastructure investment in China so far. When operating at capacity, the 85,000-square-metre facility is expected to handle 30 million products each year and employ nearly 400 people.
