Pakistan to build new “apparel park” to capitalise on EU export status

14/04/2014
Textile manufacturers in the Punjab province of Pakistan have announced that they will build a new “apparel park” near Lahore. The project will have funding from investors in China.

Textile industry leaders in Pakistan have sought funding for large-scale projects of this kind to be able to increase the country’s textile production capacity to capitalise on the favourable conditions Pakistan has at the moment for exporting to the European Union (EU).

The EU has assigned GSP Plus status to Pakistan under its Generalised Scheme of Preferences, which makes it possible for exporters in developing economies to pay lower duties on their exports to the EU.
