OutDry court case: Geox responds
07/05/2014
At the start of May, Columbia announced that a court in Milan had granted a preliminary injunction, subject to appeal, against Geox in connection with the sale of footwear technology being sold in Italy as Amphibiox. Columbia’s contention before the court is that Amphibiox breaches patents held by breathable, waterproof membrane technology provider OutDry, owned by Columbia since 2010.
Geox’s head of external relations, Juan Carlos Venti, has told sportstextiles.com that his company has accepted the ruling, but pointed out: “It’s only a first decision from the court. We will see what happens at the end of the process.”
Mr Venti went on to say that, in any case, the Amphibiox products covered by the case had not been on sale since 2012. “We had abandoned the initial way of producing those shoes before everything started with Columbia,” he insisted. “We changed our production methods before they first complained. We changed to improve the product, so we are relaxed about this.”
