DuPont has said it is in an advanced market development phase with what it calls “a novel alternative to polyester and nylon”.

Senior vice-president in charge of ploymers, James Collins, made the comment when he travelled to India in mid-May to preside at the formal launch four new application development laboratories at DuPont’s knowledge centre in Hyderabad. He told local media the company was working with customers in the textile industry in India to create alternatives to polyester and nylon and that trials had taken place with traditional Indian women’s sarees.

“We have rolled out some of them and have got good feedback in terms of the way the saree drapes,” he said. He added that the new product could be launched in the Indian market in the next two years or so.
