Sports retail group Decathlon is poised for growth in India. In recent comments to media there, the chief executive of Decathlon India, Steve Dykes, said the number of stores Decathlon owns and manages in the Indian market will grow from 12 at present to 20 by the end of 2014.

He said the company plans further expansion in the years ahead and that a further 50 or 60 Decathlon stores in Indian cities five years from now is a possibility.

“We expect India to be amongst top five markets for us in terms of stores,” he added. “There is a latent demand for sports goods retailing.”
