India’s new minister of state for textiles, Santosh Gangwar, has said his main aims are to create more textile jobs and increase the industry’s contribution to the wider Indian economy.

In comments to local media soon after taking offce, Mr Gangwar said he also wanted to promote “Brand India” overseas to increase the textile sector’s export revenues. He said he had been struck in the past by the extent of the input Indian textile manufacturers often have into big brands’ clothing collections without receiving much credit for their work.
