Huntsman to show off TPU developments at Shanghai footwear summit
04/08/2014
During the event, Huntsman TPU experts will contribute to discussions about the sustainability challenges facing footwear manufacturers around the world.
Attendees will explore how leading footwear companies are making their manufacturing processes more efficient and sustainable. Delegates will also examine the sourcing of raw materials, such as TPUs, that can be turned into fully recyclable components for shoes, boots and sandals.
In China, Huntsman has recently strengthened its TPU production capabilities by building a brand new manufacturing plant in Shanghai. The new facility complements existing TPU facilities in the US and Germany, and will help the business meet fast growing demand for its materials across a range of consumer and industrial markets, including the footwear sector.
Stephane Peysson, global business development manager at Huntsman, explained more: “China is the number one country for footwear manufacturing worldwide in terms of volume and will remain so for the foreseeable future, even with new manufacturing countries coming through and the European market picking up. The footwear sector is a core part of our global TPU business and having a dedicated production facility in China is a major step forward, enabling us to respond even faster to our customers and partners in the region.”
During the footwear summit Huntsman will highlight its latest innovations for the footwear market. These include Avalon95 ABU, a UV-protected, high-performance, polyester-based TPU for injection moulding, which offers longer UV resistance than current available offerings, outstanding abrasion resistance, a fast cycle time and good flex performance, even at low temperatures. The company has said this TPU is ideal for sports footwear, and can also be used to create top pieces and components such as cleats, shanks, counters and decorative parts.
