Yoga trousers and tops are becoming increasingly popular with people who never, or hardly ever, practise yoga, according to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper said young consumers like the fact that yoga apparel is easy to wash, requires no ironing and is now acceptable dress in many social contexts.

It quoted Matt Powell, an analyst at market research firm SportsOneSource, as saying sales of yoga apparel increased by 45% year on year in 2013. And Karen Stone, the owner of an independent yoga clothing store in New York, told the Wall Street Journal: “Everyone is wearing yoga pants.”
