3M Thinsulate Featherless, a clarification

17/09/2014
In our article on thermal solutions on pages 12-19 of the July-August 2014 issue of WSA, we said that 3M’s Thinsulate Featherless was one example of a 100% polyester fibre ball insulation.

The company has asked us to point out that Thinsulate Featherless is a loose fill material.

A loose fill insulation is comprised of small particles of unbonded material, the company explained. This loose material can then conform to any space, as opposed to a batted insulation, which has a more rigid structure.

It went on to say that a fibre ball is a “random entanglement of fibres” in a round shape, like a loose ball, rather than linear.

We are happy to clarify the point.
