Strong spending on sports goods in France

29/09/2014
Spending on sports clothing and equipment among French consumers increased by 3% in the first half of 2014 to reach €2.6 billion, according to market research firm NPD Group.

It said running was the category that showed the biggest growth, up 16% for men and 13% for women.

NPD Group said the second half of the year had got off to a promising start, not least because of the FIFA World Cup, at which France lost to eventual winners, Germany, in the quarter-final. In the month of July, when the tournament in Brazil came to a climax, sales of balls and  shirts in France doubled in value compared to the same month in 2013.
